Ortakoy

We were talking to some folks who mentioned that there was a street market in Ortakoy, on the other side of the Golden Horn from where we were staying. We thought that would make a nice day trip, so we jumped in a cab and took a slow and traffic clogged ride (is there any other sort in Istanbul?) there.

We found a very nice little area right close to the University. As with most waterside communities, there was plenty of seating and some nice little restaurants there.

This is a view of the Bosporus and the Ortakoy Mosque. It was a very nice, warm day and the area was teeming with people.

The vendors were selling mostly junk, as in almost all street markets. Lots of stuff made in India and China. Some things (geegaws) made locally. But you don't go to these places for the buying, you go for the fun. (and the beer)

We found a nice little place with some tables outside. We sat there and ate some fish (see next entry) and enjoyed the day.

  1. Have you had kokorec (pronounced kokoresh, I think) yet? We loved it!
